Seasonal Sugar Madness
It is SUGAR not fats that are the problem in the modern diet. Links on this issue below.
At Christmas time, of course, sugar intake tends to get higher. We're not purists, and feel a few treats at Christmas time are absolutely fine and should be enjoyed in moderation. (Add some Cinnamon to balance out the blood sugars!).
However, some high street chains are completely out of hand on this issue.
Action on Sugar carried out an analysis of high street christmas treats and the results were shocking. Often as much as three times the daily amount of recommended sugar (and this is already too high) in one tiny slice of cake!
Our advice - make your christmas treats yourself. Homemade is healthier and tastes better too! But if you need something sweet when you're out Christmas shopping... (we know, sometimes we all do) ... choose small independant retailers with real cakes, and go with something small.
Remember that your body will crave what you give it, so large intakes of sugar will only make you want more. Keep it small and savour it.
You might if you are lucky find some raw and organic treats... more and more small stores are providing unique options these days. Dates, cashews and raw cacao for example are all fantastic but still satisfy that Christmas feeling!
You heard us right. low fat is the last thing to do if you want to be slim! How can that be when "low fat" is so well established in government guidelines, shopping aisles, and health campaigns? …
For nearly a decade, we've been determined to show that good FATS are HEALTHY and that there is corruption at play in Government Guidelines.
Go nuts with nuts this Christmas and ENJOY!
