FREE WELLBEING EVENING "Toxic impact of Shame and how to survive it"
18th January 7pm - 9pm Speaker Mark Head
“At one level developing sense of shame is a normal part of growing up, and parents and society use our sense of shame in order to help socialise us - to develop behaviours that fit with our family and wider social culture. However, when the process of shaming is more pervasive in the family of origin, people can develop a sense of what has been termed toxic shame. Here the individual feels ashamed of who they are, rather than it being related to some errant behaviour. In this talk we will be exploring the concept of shame, how it can influence us and our behaviours as individuals. We will also explore the question of how we might help people who have a sense of toxic shame.”
Giving Back, Giving Hope
As at yesterday, there are 61,962 refugees in Greece – mostly from countries like Syria, Afghanistan and Eritrea, but also from other countries – and again mostly people who have fled for their lives, lost family members to war or persecution, horrendous circumstances, lost or had to give up all their worldly possessions, and are now at the mercy of the rest of the world.
Hope and Aid Direct will be taking a small truck convoy of 4 x 7.5 ton and one 40 ton articulated truck to Greece in January, and it is hoped that two of those trucks will go onwards to the Island of Lesvos, where today, there are more than 6,000 refugees mainly in two camps, Kara Tepe which has a capacity of 1,000 people and is full, and Moria, which has a capacity that has been increased to 2200, and has 4800 people!
I am collecting to above items to go with this convey – please help me to help families in desperate need.
I am collecting Nappies (especially size 1,2,5,6), baby wipes and Sudocreme for Mums who are struggling. I also have a new Amazon wish list.
We will also be donating money and items to this cause rather than sending Christmas cards.
Thank you so much in advance. Leilani
