"Esoteric" Websites Under Threat
There are certain websites that should be blocked. On an objective basis, they are fairly easy to identify aren't they.
But it seems that to be added to this list, are potentially websites considered esoteric. Now, this is a subject area with tremendous scope for intrepretation, and indeed misapplication of the law. Who decides?
For the sake of argument, let's go with the Oxford Dictionary definition;
"ESOTERIC - intended for or likely to be understood by only a small number of people with a specialized knowledge or interest"
So if the UK government seeks to ban or block / or opt in all websites deemed Esoteric in content, it is not difficult to see that this could be a very slippery slope.
Most of us would probably agree they are referring by and large to sites of alternative spirituality. But where will they start, with the Dalai Lama and Deepak Chopra perhaps?
And where will they end, with any website that contains such subsersive words such as healing, homeopathy, raw food, mindfullness, meditation maybe?
Certainly something for all of our concern and vigilience. And probably a good idea to sign and circulate the two petitions that we have seen...
