Eco & Holistic Exchange Opportunity in France
09/03/2008
Do you have time on your hands and want to experience a new challenge?
This is an S.O.S. call to those of you who are at a loose end sometime this Spring/Summer, and are interested in work-experience in France in exchange for board and lodgings.
La Platriere is a beautiful Retreat/Chambres d’Hotes situated in the Auvergne region (so called the “Green Lung of France” because of its low pollution levels and natural beauty). The area is unspoilt, tranquil, steeped in mystery, legend and history with traditional rural French life as the everyday norm. The region is also known as “a paradise of space” as the horizon goes on for ever and it is the least populated region in France. Here you can breathe and experience a sense of freedom from the hustle and bustle of a modern lifestyle.
Different from the glitz of the south and the hustle of activity in the eastern alps, the Auvergne has been the quietly best kept secret in France, which of course is the very reason why we chose to live here and share its healing and restful qualities with others who come here either on as a retreat or a holiday. Additionally we run holistic workshops during the spring and autumn aimed at self-discovery and learning new skills.
At the moment we do most of the work ourselves – that’s right just the two of us! We really do need some helping hands to keep on top of things and help implement the new ideas we have planned for the forthcoming year.
We have 3 acres of gardens and need help with the organic vegetable and fruit that we grow. We like to supply our table for the guests with as much home-grown vegetables and fruit as we can – turning them into delicious traditional French country dishes. We make our own jams, jellies and syrups from our own fruit (as well as other recipes). Nothing goes to waste as we like to re-cycle everything by composting and shredding and making new things out of existing materials – for example Andy built our new summer kitchen using wood copsed from our huge conifer hedges. We also keep goats and plan to have chickens this year (which need housing made for them). We also need help in the house, preparing vegetables for meals, and cleaning etc. Not forgetting to mention help keeping the swimming pool clean and sparkling!
So if you fancy a change this year and want to do something different, why not consider spending some time in rural France, brushing up your French language at the same time! Contact us stating whether your interest is in being a Helping Hand in exchange for board and meals; or if your interest is in joining one of the holistic holidays with workshops held this May and September; or maybe just to come out here on a retreat break. Please visit our website on http://www.laplatriere.co.uk/ where you’ll find out more about us.
We would be most happy to talk to you; phone Andy or Jackie on 0033(0)470679426 or e-mail us on info@laplatriere.co.uk We look forward to hearing from you soon.
