Hydro Power

Listed below are suppliers of Hydro Power products

Hydro Electricity is a sustainable, environmentally friendly source of energy, there are several hydro power stations in the country, many in areas of biodiversity; water trapped behind a dam is passed through a turbine, generating electricity, hydro energy can also be created by harnessing wave power.

Hydro power is the most efficient form of sustainable energies.   Somewhere in the region of 20% of the worlds electricity is generated by hydro power plants, and hopefully this figure will continue to increase over the coming years.

Hydro power has until recently been very limited in residential applications, but due to the phenomenal cost effectiveness and low environmental impact, demand is increasing and more suppliers are now offering "micro" hydro turbines.   These have a power rating of 100kW or less and will produce 100 standard units of electricity in one hour.

Hydro electricity is of course very site specific, but even a small stream can create sufficient energy.  In some cases installing hydro-power may be cheaper than connecting to the National Grid.

Hydro systems can operate as a stand alone system powered by battery or have a connection the main electricity grid; in some cases, a micro hydro turbine will generate enough power to sell any electricity surplus to requirements to electricity companies.
