Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko was born in 1923, in a small Russian village called Ivanitsa. He studied mechanics at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute and later intensively studied what he called "the most complicated piece of machinery of all" - the human body. By the end of the 1960's, Buteyko was being used with great success in clinics all over Russia.
Buteyko developed a series of breathing exercises used to correct and alleviate the symptoms of asthma and the method can also be useful for emphysema, allergies, sinusitis, rhinitis, snoring, COPD, hyperventilating, panic attacks and bronchitis.
Buteyko normally consists of five, one hour sessions usually over five consecutive days, it is recommended that the method should only be taught by a practitioner registered with the Buteyko Institute of Breathing and Health. Most BIBH practitioners offer a money back guarantee, and allow payment after the course is completed
